美國亞洲學會（Association for Asian Studies, AAS）2013年會暨書展，於3月22日至24日假美國聖地牙哥君悅大飯店（Manchester Grand Hyatt）舉行。來自臺灣的國家圖書館漢學研究中心，特邀請財團法人蔣經國國際學術交流基金會，共同參加年會並舉辦書展，並由吳英美副館長與廖箴助理編輯出席。

本次書展展出臺灣近三年來之漢學與臺灣研究相關圖書及光碟計485種、525冊，以呈現臺灣近年學術成果和出版概況，其中亦包括來自國立臺灣大學出版中心及國立臺灣圖書館的贈書，使展出內容更為充實。展出圖書除供與會千餘位來自世界各地的學者參考訂購外，會後並贈與去年甫和本館簽署「臺灣漢學資源中心」合作備忘錄的德州大學奧斯汀分校，以豐富該校圖書館漢學研究資源。贈書儀式於3月22日上午10時30分於書展會場舉行，由駐洛杉磯臺北經濟文化辦事處文化組藍先茜組長主持，國家圖書館吳副館長以國家圖書館新出版之《現妙明心：歷代佛教經典文獻珍品特展圖錄》一書代表致贈，德州大學奧斯汀分校東亞圖書館蘇孟芬主任代表接受贈書。

亞洲學會年會，旨在提供全球研究亞洲學之學者一個交換學術研究成果的機會，3天會期共有356場研討會。隨著年會的舉辦，近百家來自全球不同國家學校或機構出版社亦前來設置書展攤位，展示並銷售圖書。此次參展，除國家圖書館漢學研究中心之外，中央研究院亦展示數位典藏與學習計畫，包括實體圖書，及近年來臺灣投入數位出版、建置資料庫的豐碩成果。期許藉年會書展呈現臺灣出版界現況，並推動國際合作來增強文化的交流與認同。

The Taiwan Fellowship is established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in 2010 to encourage foreign experts and scholars in the fields of social sciences and humanities interested in researches related to Taiwan, cross-strait relations, mainland China, Asia-Pacific region and Chinese studies to conduct advanced research at universities or academic institutions in Taiwan.

The application period in 2013 for the Taiwan Fellowship is from May 1 to June 30. By submitting, please send all the official copies of your application documents to your R.O.C (Taiwan) Embassy or Representative Office by July 1.

《漢學研究》（季刊）計劃於2014年6月出版「十九世紀臺灣與東亞」專輯，由中央研究院臺灣史研究所張隆志副研究員籌劃主編。論文以中、英文撰寫皆可，中文稿以不超過二萬五千字，英文稿以30頁以內為原則，體例請依照本刊「稿約」和「寫作格式」。專輯內容說明如下：

本專輯以「十九世紀臺灣與東亞」為主題，從比較觀點，探討臺灣近代的歷史轉型及社會文化變遷。十九世紀中期至二十世紀初葉，歐美列強在全球展開殖民競爭，被史家稱為「帝國的時代」。而原為清帝國邊疆的臺灣，在此一殖民主義與現代性交會的特殊脈絡中，經歷了開港、開山、建省，以及被迫割讓為日本殖民地的複雜歷程。在新舊時代的交替中，臺灣成為多元人群接觸和衝突協調的場域。身處臺灣的漢人與原住民，和來自中國、西方和日本的旅行者，均在此島嶼上歷經不同的知識情境、空間經驗與認同變遷。本專輯擬從臺灣與臺灣所處的東亞地域之相互比較的觀點，探討東亞國際政經變遷與跨國文化貿易網絡，是否或如何影響及形塑臺灣本土社會及人民日常生活。進而透過代表性的個案研究，結合晚清中國史、日本近代史及比較殖民史的學術視野，凸顯十九世紀臺灣的時代特徵及歷史意涵。預定討論課題如下：

Chinese Studies Seeks Contributions for a Special Issue on “Taiwan in the Context of Nineteenth-Century East Asia”

The June 2014 issue of Chinese Studies will be a special issue entitled “Taiwan in the Context of Nineteenth-Century East Asia.” The chief editor is Prof. Lung-chih Chang, Associate Research Fellow of the Institute of Taiwan History, Academia Sinica. Submissions can be in either Chinese or English, with a limit of 25,000 characters for Chinese papers and around 30 pages for English papers. Format and style should conform to the Style Guide listed in each issue of Chinese Studies.
Since the mid-nineteenth century, Taiwan (Formosa), an island frontier of the Qing dynasty, witnessed the opening of treaty ports, the flourishing of international trade, the threat of foreign invasion, and the building of a maritime province before her forceful cession to imperial Japan in 1895. During this time of tumultuous transition, the island became a contact zone of different peoples where indigenous and Han Taiwanese interacted with visitors from mainland China, Europe, America and Japan. The special issue will examine the complex history of nineteenth-century Taiwan from the comparative perspective of East Asian history and evaluate the impacts of modernity and colonialism on local society and cultural life in the so-called the age of empire. Recommended topics for research include (1) frontier management and colonization; (2) state building and territorial rule; (3) commercial networks and regional trade; (4) border society and ethnic relations; (5) information transmission and knowledge formation; (6) landscape, discourse and identity.

《漢學研究通訊》徵求海外漢學消息 Call for News

The Center for Chinese Studies is organized under the Ministry of Education and managed by the National Central Library, Taiwan. We are responsible for collecting and organizing materials related to Chinese studies as well as providing research-related services. The Newsletter for Research in Chinese Studies has been put out on a quarterly basis since January 1982 to report on research, teaching, events, and publications relating to Chinese studies. The Newsletter is primarily provided either an exchange or complimentary basis to individuals, organizations, groups, and libraries in both Taiwan and overseas that are involved with Chinese studies. We also take subscriptions from all over the world. Currently 2,000 copies of each issue are printed.
We would appreciate it if, your institution could provide us with information on activities related to Chinese studies such as those of individual scholars, seminars, academic activities, and publications. The Newsletter is published every February, May, August, and November and primarily covers events occurring from October-December, January-March, April-June, July-September, respectively. We look forward to receiving updates from you in the future and are certain that your contribution will help us provide a more complete picture of the community of researchers involved with Chinese studies.
